De kinderactiviteit op 13 juni stond in het teken van de sport: de aftrap naar het WK voetbal. Hierbij een reactie van één van de deelnemers.
I don’t go to the Dutch church very much because I often play football matches on Sundays. However, the season has finished and I was very pleased when my mum said we were going to the Dutch church and I could play football AND follow the World Cup.
We went by car as we had brought orange/red/white/blue cup cakes, orange drinks, football cheeses and orange crisps. During the church service, my brother and me went downstairs to Kinderkerk where we listened to a story about sportsmanship and ‘eerlijk en niet eerlijk’. This was a really good idea for people who love football like me.
After the service we all went downstairs in our orange shirts and even more children joined us for some fun games. There were about 18 children or more, and we were divided into 3 teams with coaches Els (Guus Hiddink, my team), Saskia (Marco van Basten) and Wilma (Louis van Gaal). My favourite activity was the penalty shoot-out, which was held outside the social hall with a real goal and a superb goalkeeper (Rod) made sure we didn’t score too many goals. We also created some posters, we played blow football with straws and ping pong balls, coin football on a glass table.
We then had a very tasty lunch with loads of lovely sandwiches made by George and Rein, drinks and of course lots and lots of orange food items which all participants had brought such as orange marsh mallows, cakes, carrots, tangerines, biscuits and lots more.
After lunch we swapped with the other teams and went upstairs in the church. The organisers Frida and Ria had laid out a tricky obstacle course in the aisles and Philco helped us a bit, and there was a ten pin (in this case bottles) foot’bowl’ing lane, where we had to kick as many over as we could. And last not but not least we went downstairs again and were allowed to get a lucky dip from a splendid treasure chest with some great presents. My brother got a fab orange scarf and I got a very cool orange football straw.
I really enjoyed the day and I was sad to go, thank you very much for organising this and I hope to come back soon. George Clarke
