Rudolf Johannes Loman was born in Amsterdam. In 1883 he became organist at the Dutch Church in London, a position he held for over 31 years. Loman married: Gonne van Uildriks in 1887. They lived separately from 1897 until 1907, when they finally divorced. He was Dutch Chess champion in 1912 and passed away in The Hague in 1932.
